Fernando Muslera

According to reports from The Express this morning, Arsenal are lining up Galatasaray goalkeeper Fernando Muslera as a potential alternative to Chelsea’s Petr Cech.

The Czech international is widely regarded as one of the greatest goalkeepers in Premier League history, boasting four league titles, the 2012 Champions League title, three Golden Gloves and 333 appearances as the Blues’ No.1.

But he’s expected to leave Stamford Bridge this summer after losing his starting berth to the supremely talented Thibaut Courtois, and Arsenal are particularly willing to take the 6 foot 5 shot-stopper off the west London outfit’s hands – as This Is Futbol revealed in April.

He’s also been mooted as a potential successor to Manchester United’s Real Madrid-bound No.1 David De Gea by The Telegraph.

But manager Jose Mourinho has continually expressed his reluctance to sell the 32 year-old to a Premier League rival – as This Is Futbol revealed earlier this month – whilst The Daily Mail have recently claimed he’s being advised to join Ligue 1 champions PSG instead.

And according to The Express, that’s thrust Arsenal in the direction of Galatasaray’s Fernando Muslera, who has served as the Turkish outfit’s No.1 for the last four campaigns and featured prominently for Uruguay at the last two World Cups, boasting 67 caps in total.

The British tabloid claim the 28 year-old will be available for around £15m this summer.

I think Arsenal could do a lot worse than Muslera, I’ve liked him for a while (and it would keep their greasy mitts off Cech). There was a fairly good article about him on WhoScored as well.

Pretty good shot-stopper, good at playing the percentages too in terms of playing reasonably high up the pitch. My only concerns would be how good he is with his feet and his aerial ability, although he is coming from a pretty physical league. Not sure why he’d go to PSG, I definitely rate Sirigu above him.

£15m is a lot of money though!
