Chelsea’s academy has never quite caught up with the European powerhouse status the rest of the club’s cemented since Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich first turned up just over a decade ago, but it has produced some fantastic England internationals throughout the years, including the likes of Graeme Le Saux, Jimmy Greaves, Terry Venables, Ray Wilkins, and John Terry.

Likewise, the Blues know a thing or two about snapping up – or should that be tapping up – promising youngsters and developing them into world stars; Frank Lampard, Eden Hazard and Petr Cech being the more predominant examples.

Unfortunately, however, not every prodigious hot shot to have graced Stamford Bridge has gone on to fulfill their enormous potential – in fact, quite the opposite.

So in homage to those Chelsea prospects who were heralded as future greats but inevitably amounted to very, very little, here’s a list of the FIVE who flopped the most spectacularly – with an added update on where they are now.
