Tottenham Hotspur v Sunderland - Barclays Premier League

According to reports from The Evening Standard yesterday afternoon, Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino has denied claims star goalkeeper Hugo Lloris will be sold to Manchester United this summer.

The France international has performed to a consistently high standard since moving to White Hart Lane in summer 2012, this season making the most saves, 77, of any goalkeeper in the Premier League’s top six whilst claiming six clean sheets in 30 league appearances.

But now 28 years of age and skipper for his national side, it’s no secret the former Lyon man wants to test himself at Champions League level – which Manchester United will be able to guarantee him if they bag eleven more points in their remaining five fixtures.

White Hart Lane boss Pochettino, however, has refuted rumours claiming Tottenham’s failure to qualify for Europe’s most coveted tournament this year will force Lloris into an Old Trafford move.

Speaking at his press conference ahead of Saturday’s visit to Southampton, the Argentine told reporters; “There is no change, nothing from four, five or six months ago when we spoke about the rumour [before]. Hugo wants to play the Champions League here for Tottenham and these are rumours.

“Nothing is true. Nothing has changed the situation. He is happy here and wants to reach the Champions League with Tottenham. That is his dream.

“This season realistically it is very difficult to reach the top four. We need to try – we have five games ahead but at the same time I don’t want to lie. It is not easy to reach the top four, realistically,” he added.
