BellarabiFrom the looks of things, there’s a good chance that Manchester United are going to be on the hunt to sign a new winger during the summer transfer window. This is all the more disappointing given the fact that Louis Van Gaal spent so much cash on this area of the pitch a few months back.

Manchester United have made a serious investment in their midfield, but it just hasn’t paid off. Not yet, anyway. Angel Di Maria was supposed to be the answer, but he looks completely uninterested at times. On his day he can be a game-winner, but he’s way too inconsistent.

Who else do Manchester United have down the flanks? Nani’s with Sporting Lisbon on loan. Antonio Valencia’s being converted into a right-back. Ashley Young blows hot and cold (mostly cold nowadays) and The Red Devils younger options are still blossoming. This is why Van Gaal needs to reach back out into the transfer window when he’s given the opportunity.

This leads me neatly onto The Metro‘s claim that Manchester United are ‘ready to move’ for Bayer Leverkusen’s star winger, Karim Bellarabi. The source suggests that details have recently emerged regarding the player’s £10.9m release clause. This fee is obviously well within The Red Devils financial reach.

The 24-year-old has caught the eye in recent weeks with his quick feet, smart running and direct attacking play. He’s not afraid to take defenders on and he’s more than capable of making things happen in the final third. I wouldn’t be surprised if he proved to be a good fit in the Premier League.

Either way, with four caps for the Germany international team, it’s clear that he’s set for big things. He’s just about to enter his peak after all.

The aforementioned source claims that Manchester United have sent scouts to watch him in action, so it looks like their interest is genuine. Let’s hope so any way. Louis Van Gaal needs to do something to freshen things up.

What’s your take? Is Karim Bellarabi the right man to turn things around for Manchester United?
