We’re now just a couple of months away from the opening of the January window and Manchester United are widely expected to launch a bid for Netherlands international Memphis Depay, who scored two goals under Louis van Gaal’s leadership at the 2014 World Cup.

According to reports from The Telegraph yesterday evening, representatives of the former Premier League champions – and perhaps even van Gaal himself – will watch the young winger in action this evening as Oranje take on Spain at the Amsterdam Arena.

In addition to his impressive performances last summer, the 21 year-old has bagged 23 goals in all competitions this term, including 17 in the league, and has clearly outgrown the Eredivisie. Manager Phillip Cocu sees him as a direct reincarnation of Arjen Robben, and has already admitted the £20million winger will likely leave PSG this summer.

“It becomes clear that he [Depay] is ready for the next step. And yes, I think he’s going to leave PSV after this season,” the Holland centurion recently told the press.

Historic rivals Liverpool are other known suitors of Depay however, as reported by Mirror Football earlier this month, whilst the in-demand wide-man’s agent has claimed he’s yet to be contacted by any club.

As reported by Goal.com, agent Kees Ploegsma told reporters earlier this week; “No, there has been a lot of rumours, but he still has a contract with PSV, so for now he is in Eindhoven. We have not been in contact with any clubs.”

He then attempted to play down Depay’s relationship with the United boss; “They had good contact during the World Cup, but since then there has been no contact.”

A bid within the region of £20million is still widely expected this summer however.
