Liverpool dropping out of the Europa League was particularly painful, seeing as it followed directly on from a period of time where the club was in good form. They’d just managed to pull off an impressive 2-0 away victory over Southampton too, so the signs were looking good.
Unfortunately, The Reds didn’t really show up to their Thursday night game against Besiktas. They never made it past first gear and paid the price as a result.
Liverpool’s premature exit from Europe might well have forced fans and club officials alike into some soul searching. After all, it’s now clear that The Reds don’t have the team they need to compete on multiple fronts. If things stay this way, I can’t see Brendan Rodgers’ side winning any silverware any time soon.
As such, I was excited to see the following rumour start popping up: according to The Metro, Liverpool are ready and willing to ‘go all out’ to sign Atletico Madrid’s star winger, Arda Turan. The source suggests that Brendan Rodgers has made the Turkish ace his ‘top summer target’.
This is good news for Liverpool fans. Arda is among the top wingers in European football. He played a key role in Atletico Madrid’s title winning season and he’s been in good form this year. In 164 appearances for the La Liga side, he’s scored 22 goals and made 32 assists. That proves he can be effective in the final third. With his experience and quality, why wouldn’t The Reds be interested?
According to the aforementioned source, Liverpool have been tailing Arda Turan for the last year and a half. They’re now looking to wrap up a £25.6m deal for the former Galatasaray captain. Here’s hoping that The Reds will finally be able to convince Turan to put pen to paper.
One thing’s for sure: Brendan Rodgers needs some more high quality options in his midfield. Arda Turan could prove to be just the ticket.
