Brendan Rodgers’ inspired switch to a 3-4-2-1 formation has proved to be the turning point in Liverpool’s polarised Premier League campaign.
Before its introduction, the Reds had lost six games from their first 16 in the league, winning only six. Since however, the Reds have been defeated just twice, claiming an incredible 33 points from a possible 42, losing only to Manchester United at both Old Trafford and Anfield.
Whether the Anfield gaffer plans to continue utilising the quirky system next season remains to be seen. It is, after all, simply a formula to get the Reds’ best players on the pitch after a summer of rather chaotic recruitment, and Rodgers may wish to return to a more conventional formation during the offseason.
Should the Ulsterman stick with it however, he needs a couple of specialists – players naturally suited to those rarer roles of wing-back, outside centre-back and wide-central attacking midfield.
So it’s with that in mind ThisIsFutbol suggests FIVE summer signings perfect for Liverpool’s 3-4-2-1.
