The coming summer transfer window could well be the most important in Manchester City’s Sheik-owned history.
Plagued by an ageing squad – in fact, the oldest in the English top flight – that have now twice failed to retain the Premier League title or make it through to the latter stages of the Champions League, the Citizens need to invest in young, prodigious personnel who can replace some of their more elder stars, such as Pablo Zabaleta and Yaya Toure.
Another major issue is City’s lack of English players, which has already got them in trouble with UEFA – who decided to reduce the size of their Champions League squad this season as punishment for failing to meet home-grown quotas.
