Adebayor

Earlier this week, This Is Futbol brought you what we considered to be the worst Chelsea transfer rumour for some time – a shock summer move for QPR and England goalkeper Robert Green, as a replacement for decade-serving former No.1 Petr Cech.

This morning however, the ever-speculative Express have trumped it in quite emphatic fashion, claiming the Premier League champions in waiting will offer Tottenham’s Emmanuel Adebayor an escape route from White Hart Lane this summer.

Spurs have been trying to offload the Togo international for some time – in fact, pretty much since they signed him permanently from Manchester City in 2012. His goal return for the North London club is a decent-enough 41 in 106 appearances – but nearly half of those came during his first season, when the former Arsenal front-man will still on loan from the Etihad.

Now, Adebayor is a 31 year-old striker who’s left two of the biggest clubs in the Premier League on unsavory terms, determined not to leave another unless somebody else can match his £100k per-week wages. Unsurprisingly, potential suitors are hardly queuing at his door.

The Express claim Jose Mourinho’s interest stems from his short time working with Adebayor at Real Madrid. But is he really going to add one of the division’s most work-shy strikers to a Chelsea squad famed for it’s industry, organisation and team-spirit? Another £50million bid to re-sign flopped forward Fernando Torres seems more likely.

It’s no surprise this atrocious piece of tabloid-fodder has come slap bang in the middle of the international break where, apart from Harry Kane’s goal against Lithuania, there’s really not that much for the papers to talk about.
