Robert LewandowskiHere’s a rumour I didn’t expect to see any time soon. According to The Express, Manchester United are now in the market to sign Bayern Munich’s star striker Robert Lewandowski.

In truth, The Red Devils have been linked to the Polish forward for a number of years now. Their interest in Lewandowski stretches back to his time at Borussia Dortmund when he seemed to be scoring goals for fun.

As you might guess, any deal for Robert Lewandowski would be reliant on what happens with Radamel Falcao.

When the the Colombian striker first moved to Old Trafford from Monaco as part of a loan move, a £43m transfer clause was written into the deal. As a result, Louis Van Gaal can seal a deal for Falcao whenever he wants (providing Manchester United’s hierarchy has enough money to do so).

Unfortunately, it doesn’t look like this is going to happen. The Colombian ace hasn’t exactly been scoring goals for fun, has he? Given his current displays, I’m not sure that he’s worthy of that £43m price-tag.

Still, this does leave the door open for a potential move for Robert Lewandowski. The 26-year-old has produced a mixed-return since moving to the Allianz Arena. In 30 games, he’s found the back of the net 13 times. Given his record for Dortmund, he might well feel that he should be doing better.

During his time with Dortmund, Lewandowski played 185 games and scored 103 goals. He’s clearly one of the best finishers in world football. He’s exactly the kind of calibre player that Manchester United should be interested in signing.

According to The Express, The Red Devils could sign him up for as little as £30m. That’s a huge amount of cash, but it’s a small sum for a player with his background, experience and quality. I can’t help but feel that he’d be a major improvement over the likes of Radamel Falcao. He’s younger too.

Manchester United are currently in a stage of transition with their strikers. They’ve got too many older statesmen, who don’t have the legs necessary to produce the goods at the top level. Robert Lewandowski could help to turn things around.

What’s your take? Should Manchester United finally close a deal for this long-term transfer target?

Lewe and his wife love beautiful Munich.
He is Bayern’s #1 striker. Bayern will not
sell him. Bayern are a rich club and do not
need the money. They only win Titles.
