Luiz AdrianoThe summer is still some distance away, but it’s sure to be an interesting time for Liverpool football club. The Reds may not have much money to spend (given Brendan Rodger’s approach in the last summer transfer window), but there’s certainly some issues that need to be resolved.

I’d argue that they need a new goalkeeper, one more centre-back a long-term replacement for Steven Gerrard and a back-up option for Daniel Sturridge. It’s that last player we’re going to focus on in this article.

According to The Metro, Brendan Rodgers is keen to ‘hurry through’ a deal for Shakhtar Donetsk star, Luiz Adriano. The Brazilian ace is a natural goal-scorer who’s starting to attract plenty of interest from top clubs. The aforementioned source notes that Arsenal and Juventus are also keen on him.

Adriano has been such a reliable source of goals for Shakhtar Donetsk, that it’s a little surprising that he hasn’t been snapped up by a top club sooner.

Since the 2009/10 season he’s been in fine form. In fact, since then, he’s scored 97 goals in 199 games. He’s good for a goal every other game, which makes him a valuable asset in European football. What’s most impressive, however, is his consistency. He’s no one-season wonder.

What’s more, at 27-years-old, the Brazilian battler seems to have found the best form of his career. This season he’s played 20 games and he’s found the back of the net 14 times. This means that he currently has one of the best strike-rates in Europe. Is it any wonder that Liverpool are interested?

It’s thought that Luiz Adriano could be available for as little as £7.5m. If this is true, then Liverpool would be foolish to let this opportunity pass them by. It’s impossible to find goal-scoring talent for this kind of price. With that in mind, Brendan Rodgers needs to try and make this one happen.

Adriano would represent a major step up on Mario Balotelli, after all.

What’s your take? Who do Liverpool need to sign this summer?
