Edinson Cavani It’s only recently that Arsenal have started to spend big on players. Before they spent £40m (plus) on Mesut Ozil, they were hugely reliant on Arsene Wenger’s youth plan, which never really amounted to much in the face of Chelsea and Manchester City’s free-spending.

Last summer, The Gunners signed Alexis Sanchez for more than £30m, cementing the club’s position as a financial powerhouse in the transfer market. This begs the question. Who’s next on Arsenal’s big-signing list?

At the moment, there seems to be one obvious candidate. Arsenal keep getting linked with a move for Paris Saint Germain’s star striker, Edinson Cavani. By all accounts, The Gunners would have to break their transfer record to secure a deal for the Uruguayan ace.

Indeed, The Metro claims that Arsenal are willing to spend £55m to bring him to The Emirates. Given his current reputation in Paris (he recently missed the club’s mid-season training camp), PSG’s need to conform to Financial Fair Play and the fact that he’s currently living in Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s shadow, it’s not outside the bounds of possibility that this deal could actually happen.

The Metro preface their article by claiming that it’s a transfer rumour that ‘will not die down!’. That’s as maybe, but is this due to the rumour’s verisimilitude, or simply down to the fact that it’s caught the British Press’s imagination.

One thing’s for sure: Edinson Cavani’s goal-scoring record speaks for itself. In 138 games for Napoli, he found the back of the net 104 times. That’s an absolutely remarkable return, that must surely put him up there with the best finishers in the game. As it happens, he hasn’t lost his goal-scoring form since moving to Paris. He’s scored 40 goals in 71 games for his new team.

No wonder this rumour keeps popping up. He’s a player that would revolutionise this Arsenal team, if they’re willing to spend big once again.

What’s your take? Is Edinson Cavani the right man for The Gunners? Can Arsene Wenger afford to sign him?

I think hell end up at manu, che or madrid, if he chooses madrid its de sha vu as ronaldo is no 1 goalscorer but i can still see madrid targeting him along with Reus. Would hate to see him in rival prem team but they will enter bid war whereas we wont.

Pls Wenger Sign Cavani, He Is A Highly Rated And Prolific Striker Whose Aim Is To See The Ball Behind The Net. This Is The Kind Of Player Arsenal Currently Need, Because We Still Have The Chance To Contend For The League Title As There Are More Games Left To Play. Our Focus Should Be Winning Our Games To Stand A Chance, And To Win The F. A Cup As The Defending Champions
