Sneijder 2For the last three or four years, The Red Devils have continued to pick up links to Dutch midfielder, Wesley Sneijder. The 30-year-old is widely regarded as being one of the most technically gifted midfielders of his generation.

He always seems to be at ease on the ball and he’s capable of moving it about with pin-point accuracy. He’s a dead-ball specialist who’s also good at keeping possession, racking up assists and even finding the back of the net with some regularity.

Why wouldn’t Manchester United be interested? The man is a marvel.

But let’s not forget how old he is. At 30-years-old, he’s not over the hill by any means, but he’s at the stage in his career where his price-tag (and his effectiveness) is likely to plummet on a yearly basis. He probably has four-or-five years left at the top level (he’s never really been reliant on his pace, after all), so if Manchester United do have any plans to sign him, they’ll need to move fast to ensure they get the biggest and best return on investment possible.

As it happens, The Express claim that Manchester United are well on the way to finally sealing a deal for Sneijder. The Galatasaray star has been targeted by Juventus, but the Serie A side are only willing to put up £8m. The Red Devils, on the other hand, are ready to pay his £15.6m release clause. If Louis Van Gaal is ready to do that, the Turkish club will have little choice but to sell-up.

Last season Wesley Sneijder played 42 games for his club. He scored 17 goals and made 9 assists. He’s a supremely effective footballer. Isn’t it about time that he got a run-out in the Premier League? Isn’t it time for Manchester United to finally put pen to paper on this deal?

What’s your take? Could The Red Devils really be about to sign this £15.8m long-term target? Who else should they be looking at in the January transfer window and beyond?
