Should Arsenal let this £27.5m talent end up at Tottenham?

Jackson MartinezDespite having plenty of forwards in their squad, The Gunners continue to pick up links to new options. The papers seem to have clocked on to the fact that Arsene Wenger can’t really help himself when it comes to exciting attacking players. He’s like a kid in a sweet shop.

What’s more, with Lukas Podolski now at Inter Milan on loan and Joel Campbell’s future uncertain (at the time of writing), there’s certainly some scope for a signing in this area. Still, most fans would probably expect Arsene Wenger to swoop in for a youthful option that could blossom into the next big thing, rather than a fully-developed player who will arrive expecting plenty of game-time.

But if the right player happens to be available? Perhaps Arsene Wenger could be tempted to move in.

According to The Metro, FC Porto’s star striker Jackson Martinez, could be set to move on in the summer. The Colombian ace is one of the most feared strikers in Europe. He’s proven that he’s a consistent goal-scorer at just about every level of the game. Given his form over the last 18 months, I’d argue that he’s good value for his £27.5m release clause.

Unfortunately for The Gunners, the aforementioned source claims that Martinez is ‘reportedly keen’ to move to Spurs. What a bitter blow that would be for Arsenal fans. Perhaps he’s worried that he won’t get as much action at The Emirates as he would at White Hart Lane?

Who knows what he’s thinking. In a way, it’s irrelevant. If Arsene Wenger really wanted to sign him, I’m sure he’d be capable of changing his mind.

Jackson Martinez has scored 81 goals in 116 games for FC Porto. In this season alone, he’s scored 21 goals in 25 games. He’s a true marvel. I’d love to see him in an Arsenal shirt.

But for that to happen, Arsene Wenger needs to see off Tottenham’s interest. If he’s capable of doing that he could land a hugely influential footballer (and damage Spurs’ chances of Champions League football in the future). Win-win.

What’s your take? Should Arsenal move in for Jackson Martinez or leave him for Tottenham?

  • Ben says:

I hope your right but can’t see Levy signing off on that kind of money for a 28 year old.

  • Anon says:

To start off with Spurs pursuit of Martinez is probably a media invention and by what right would Arsenal have to be the arbiter as to who moves where. This site too often produces non-news and sometimes even worse.

  • Mike D says:

Martinez just one of the many names being chucked around. None of them will actually sign for Spurs in this transfer window. I expect all THFCs business to be outgoing.

  • Tony says:

We’ve been linked to so many class strikers over the last few windows but Levy can’t get them in for peanuts so it won’t happen. Mark my words no class striker coming and Adebayor staying, not what Spurs fans want to hear but that’s whats going to happen.

  • Erik says:

why would he be worried about less game time at Arsenal? Kane >>>> Giroud by a million miles at the moment.
