Kevin GrosskreutzWhat a topsy-turvy season Borussia Dortmund are currently enjoying (if that’s the right word). They’ve been making excellent progress in the Champions League this year, but domestically they’ve been abysmal.

As things currently stand they’re joint bottom of the Bundesliga table with just 15 points after 17 games. That puts them 30 points or 10 wins behind league-leaders Bayern Munich. This is the German equivalent of Arsenal being embroiled in a relegation battle.

As a result of all this turmoil, there’s been a fair amount of speculation regarding the futures of some of Borussia Dortmund’s best players. If the Bundesliga side continue to disappoint, players like Marco Reus, Ilkay Gundogan, Henrikh Mkhitaryan and others may choose to move on.

I’m sure Arsene Wenger is watching on with great interest. This leads me neatly onto The Metro‘s claim that The Gunners have already made a £3.7m bid for Dortmund’s versatile midfielder/defender, Kevin Grosskreutz.

The German ace is pretty well regarded in his own country. He may only have 5 caps for his international side, but he’s made almost 200 appearances for Dortmund. It helps that he’s capable of playing in multiple different positions. He’s previously played as a right back, right winger, left winger and as a central midfielder.

He’ll be deployed as a striker next, I’m sure. Arsene Wenger is known to like versatile players that he can swap in and out of his squad. As such, it wouldn’t surprise me if he were genuinely interested in Kevin Grosskreutz. The German battler is the perfect mix of ability, craft, flexibility and experience.

What’s more, at 26-years-old, he’s about to enjoy his peak years as a footballer. Now looks like the right time to snap him up. I don’t believe that Borussia Dortmund would be willing to sell an important utility player like Grosskreutz (he’s already made 21 appearances this year) for just £3.7m, but he certainly strikes me as a player that’s worth pursuing.

What’s your take? How much is this Borussia Dortmund ace worth?
