De GeaIn past weeks, speculation has been rife regarding the future of Manchester United’s top shot-stopper, David De Gea. Now his agent, Jose Mendes has stepped in to offer his two penneth.

Jorge Mendes’s relationship with Manchester United is pretty strong. Bear in mind that his clients include players like Cristiano Ronaldo, Radamel Falcao, Nani, Victor Valdes, Pepe and Anderson. He’s dealt with The Red Devils on a number of different occasions. Perhaps he’s now going to oversee another United star moving to Real Madrid?

‘David is amazing, he’s brilliant. He’s a Man United player and has a contract there. You have to respect that but things change every five minutes.’

Naturally enough, these comments have fueled rumours that David De Gea could be on his way out of the club. His comment about the protean nature of football seem to be particularly ominous. Why bring this up unless something is bubbling under the surface?

Still, it’s worth noting that Mendes had more to say. When asked whether David De Gea would agree a new deal with The Red Devils, he responded: ‘I think so, yes. I think there is no problem for him to sign. When you are a [regular] player, then probably you are thebest and then the manager is very happy that a player that is fixed in the line-up will stay.’ (Source: The Star)

In all honesty, it’s a little difficult to know what to make of these claims. Things could still go either way. Luckily, Manchester United have Victor Valdes (another Mendes charge) ready to step-in should De Gea flee the coup. As replacements go, that’s pretty good. It’s great to see Louis Van Gaal taking the necessary steps to avoid future disappointments.

And with The Express claiming that De Gea has a £50m price-tag, I wouldn’t be all that surprised to see the top brass cash-in.

What’s your take? What does the future hold for David De Gea? Will he stay or will he go?
