BalotelliHow do you know when enough is enough? How do you know when it’s time to give up on somebody?

In a relationship, you often reach a breaking point where it’s clear that things just aren’t going to work out. When it comes to footballers, however, things are a little bit different.

After all, in football, players represent investments of many millions of pounds. Their success translates into the success of their clubs and their managers.

In turn, their failures can end careers and send clubs plummeting down their league table. Still, it’s difficult not to cling on to a player, in the hope that he’ll eventually come good.

Such must be the case at Liverpool, where they’re trying to figure out what they should do with Mario Balotelli.

The Italian ace arrived at Anfield in the summer, but he’s struggled to make much of an impact (despite regular game-time and the backing of his manager. He scored 30 goals in 54 games for AC Milan and had prior Premier League experience with Manchester City, but he’s been disappointing ever since he’s thrown on a Liverpool shirt.

Following the absence of Luis Suarez, The Reds needed somebody they could count on. Mario Balotelli just isn’t that man. Liverpool’s £16m investment is swirling down into the drain.

According to The Metro, The Reds have ‘finally’ made a decision to ‘sell Balotelli in the new year’. Things sure move quickly in football don’t they?

Perhaps Rodgers is hoping to sell Balotelli whilst the Italian’s reputation is still partially intact. It may already be too late for that. The Reds will only get a fraction of the price they paid for him.

As such, I can’t help but feel that it would be a mistake to sell him. I can see him transforming into a perfectly good second or third choice option when the pressure eases off a little bit.

Let’s just hope that Brendan Rodgers doesn’t rush into any decisions. I’m not sure that this relationship is at breaking point just yet.

What’s your take? Is it time to wave goodbye to Mario Balotelli?
