Could Arsenal really agree this mammoth £40m deal?

Paul Pogba 1The amount of in-fighting among Arsenal fans is growing a little disheartening. Football is a game that inspires passion among viewers, but it usually brings fans together. When it starts to tear people apart, you know that something’s amiss.

Arsenal’s poor form this season, along with season ticket price rises and the bizarre attitude of their senior staff, has led to discontentment among fans. Everybody just wants to see The Gunners get back to their best.

Unfortunately, that doesn’t look like an easy task. As things currently stand, Arsene Wenger’s boys are some way off the pace.

The Gunners will need to fix their defense this January, but I’d also argue that they need to make a major signing (of some kind), in order to get the fans back on side. Remember how signing Mesut Ozil brought everybody together for a few months? Arsene Wenger needs to make a similar move and he needs to do it as soon as possible.

His legacy is now at risk.

This brings me to The Metro‘s claim that Arsenal are ‘ready to try to sign’ Juventus’s star midfielder, Paul Pogba. The former Manchester United ace is believed to have a £40m price-tag.

With a playing style not all that dissimilar to Patrick Viera’s (or even a fully fit, in form Abou Diaby), Pogba strikes me as a perfect fit for The Gunners. In many ways, given the player’s passing range and technical ability, he strikes me as a typical Arsene Wenger signing (if you forget about that colossal price-tag, of course).

Pogba has made 14 appearances for Juventus thus far this season and he’s found the back of the net 4 times. He’s extremely effective wherever he plays in the centre-of-the-park, whether he’s placed directly in front of the back four, or behind the striker. He’s a tough character who can tackle, thread a pass, beat his man and make things happen in the final third.

Perhaps that’s worth spending £40m on? If it gets Arsenal back on track, I’m all for it.

What’s your take? Could Arsenal really agree this mammoth deal?
