BerahinoAt the time of writing, Tottenham currently lie 12th in the Premier League table. The season is still young, but it’s worth noting that 11 games have been played. Surely Mauricio Pochettino’s side should have offered a little more by now?

The former Southampton manager must be wondering what he’s got himself into. The Saints are currently second in the Premier League table (4 points above third place Manchester City). Why didn’t he just hang tough and reap the benefits of the remarkable project that is still unfurling at St Marys?

As anyone will tell you, Spurs main problem is their lack of fire power. They spent a lot of money on Roberto Soldado but he’s never exactly been a hit at White Hart Lane. Emmanuel Adebayor has reached the stage in his contract where he gives up and stops trying. To make matters worse, he’s started to criticise the fans.

I think it’s fair to say that Tottenham could do better than these two. They can’t rely on a young player like Harry Kane to consistently produce the goods. Daniel Levy needs to bring in fresh options during the January transfer window.

This brings me to The Metro‘s claim that Spurs are keen to sign two strikers: Southampton ace Jay Rodriguez and West Brom prodigy Saido Berahino. If these claims are true, it’s very exciting news indeed.

Rodriguez has been out the game for quite some time now, but it’s clear enough that he’s the real deal. Before picking up his injury, the 25-year-old scored 17 goals in 39 games. It may take him some time to regain his best form, but he’s certainly worth pursuing.

Besides, if everything works out, Tottenham will be able to rely on Saido Berahino whilst Rodriguez continues to convalesce. The 21-year-old has scored 8 goals in 11 games for The Baggies this season. At international level, he’s found the back of the net 10 times in 13 games for the England U21s.

With this kind of goal-scoring record, he’s not going to come cheap. Perhaps Mauricio Pochettino could raise the necessary funds by selling Roberto Soldado?

I certainly hope so. Signing two strikers of this level of quality could make all the difference for Tottenham.

What’s your take? Could Spurs really land both Jay Rodriguez and Saido Berahino?
