berahinoLiverpool’s recent 0-0 draw with Hull City was revealing. The fact that The Reds couldn’t break down City’s defense says everything you need to know about the club’s forward line-up.

Luis Suarez left the club in the summer opening a void that Daniel Sturridge was supposed to fill. Unfortunately, the English centre-forward has been struggling with long-term injury issues and hasn’t been a prominent part of Liverpool’s team this season (not yet, any way).

Luckily, Brendan Rodgers dropped £16m on Mario Balotelli in the summer, a striker who scored 30 goals in 54 appearances for AC Milan. Given that he’s a regular presence for the Italian international team, he should have been able to make the step up. He should be more than capable of bolstering The Reds’ attack.

Unfortunately, that just hasn’t been the case. It looked like a good signing at the time, but things have quickly gone sour. There’s a good chance that Brendan Rodgers will look to add a little more fire-power to his forward line during the January transfer window. Let’s hope so any way.

This brings me to The Daily Mail’s claim that Brendan Rodgers is considering making a move for West Brom’s in form striker, Saido Berahino. In 35 appearances for The Baggies last season, he scored 9 goals. In 11 appearances this year, he’s already managed to find the back of the net 8 times.

He’s clearly improving and he’s still just 21-years-old. What’s most impressive about Berahino is his composure on the ball. For such a young player he’s remarkably assured. He doesn’t get ruffled and he’s got the technique to get out of sticky situations. It’s easy to see why Liverpool might be interested.

Unfortunately, he’s not going to come cheap. The Mail claim that West Brom are holding out for as much as £25m. That’s a lot of money – probably too much for such a young player who still has a lot to prove.

Let’s hope that Brendan Rodgers is able to bring the price down to a more Liverpool-friendly size.

What’s your take? Should Liverpool spend big to sign Saido Berahino?
