It’s difficult to understand why Mario Balotelli has been such a poor fit for Liverpool so far. He was in excellent form prior to his move to Anfield (scoring 30 goals in 54 games) and he had previous Premier League experience with Manchester City. Most fans were concerned about the Italian’s ability to curb his trouble-making instincts, but few were worried about his ability to find the back of the net.
But his careless nature in the final third is holding The Reds back in a major way. This, combined with Daniel Sturridge’s injury troubles, has put Brendan Rodgers in a difficult position. Liverpool should be capitalising on their excellent run last season, not struggling to break into the top four once again.
As such, there’s a good chance that Rodgers will spend the January transfer window targeting a striker or a forward who can drag The Reds back into contention. Any competition for Mario Balotelli would be good competition at this stage.
This brings me to The Metro‘s claim that Liverpool have their eye on West Brom starlet, Saido Berahino. The source suggests that Brendan Rodgers has prepared a £15m bid for the 21-year-old. If this is true, then it’s rather exciting news.
The youngster’s goal-scoring record is impressive. In 14 games this season, he managed to find the back of the net 8 times. More than that, however, he’s proven himself to be a technically talented footballer who uses the ball well. From what we’ve seen of him thus far, it’s clear that he’s got a massive future ahead of him.
Big clubs will inevitably come knocking at some stage of his career. If Liverpool can somehow manage to jump to the head of the queue, they’ll have pulled off a real coup.
I’m not convinced that West Brom will sell up for as little as £15m, but it’s worth testing the waters, even if Brendan Rodgers has to go back in with an improved bid later on. The Reds certainly can’t afford to sit still and hope that Mario Balotelli comes good. They need to act!
What’s your take? Is Saido Berahino the right man for The Reds?

What kind of rubbish is that, henderson for £35mill! Lovren, Allen, Lucas and markovic for 15 each!! Your dreaming.. Just because we spent 16 on Henderson and he’s twice as good as he was when we bought him it doesn’t make him £35mill.. thats not how it works… It’s not football manager, we’re getting chump change for those guys. I’m not even commenting on the fact you’ve got sterling in that list; that speaks for itself. Clyne and Varane would be signings though. Isco isn’t realistic for us right now but I wouldn’t mind seeing berahino hes got a fight in him. Something we need desperately right now.
I pray dat dis dream comes true…
