Louis Van Gaal was handed a lot of money to spend during the summer transfer window and he spent it with the greatest of diligence. Unfortunately, most of his new recruits are taking a while to settle in. As a result, Manchester United still aren’t back to their free-flowing best.
It’ll be interesting to see how The Dutchman reacts in the January transfer window. Will he stick with what he’s got and hope that they come good, or will he shoot for the stars and bring in a couple more options?
According to The Metro he’s got his eye on two new additions to this Manchester United squad. He just can’t seem to help himself can he? He’s like a kid in a candy store.
The two players in question are FC Basel’s star centre-back, Fabian Schar and Benfica’s well regarded forward, Anderson Talisca.
Both players would improve this Manchester United side, but it’s Schar who’s the main attraction here. Since the start of the season The Red Devils’ soft underbelly has been revealed again and again. Louis Can Gaal brought in a lot of fresh attacking talent in the summer, but he neglected to sort out his back four in any meaningful way.
The January transfer window will provide him with an opportunity to right this wrong and Fabian Schar looks like a step in the right direction. He’s got experience in the Champions League and he’s got 9 caps for Switzerland. He’s quick along the turf, works hard and takes up smart positions. Better still, he’s only 22-years-old. He’s got a long career ahead of him.
As it happens, Talisca looks like a good option. The tough Brazilian has been nicknamed ‘Yaya Talisca’ as many feel that he shares a similar playing style to Yaya Toure. This season he’s made 14 appearances for Benfica and he’s found the back of the net 9 times. Not too shabby, huh?
Given that he’s only 22-years-old, he certainly strikes me as another player that’s worth pursuing. This duo won’t come cheap, but that hasn’t stopped Manchester United in the past. Let’s hope that Louis Van Gaal is ready to get his chequebook out once again.
