Should Arsenal REALLY chase this £36.6m talent?

IscoWatching Arsenal play this season, I have to say that I’ve never once stopped to think: ‘Ooh, you know what Arsene Wenger needs? One more talented number ten. Somebody who can pick the ball up in the middle of the park and pick out a killer pass’.

After all, on the face of things, The Gunners are fairly well stocked in this department. Yes, they’ve been unlucky with injuries, but when everybody’s fit Arsene Wenger can call upon a wealth of talent that includes players like Mesut Ozil (remember him?), Jack Wilshere (who admittedly spends a lot of time on the side line), Aaron Ramsey, Santi Cazorla, Mikel Arteta, Tomas Rosicky and more. Heck, if he’s feeling particularly adventurous he could even take a gamble on Abou Diaby and hope that the Frenchman doesn’t fall apart.

With this in mind, I was a little surprised to see The Metro link The Gunners with a shock move for Real Madrid’s star midfielder, Isco. Surprised and excited despite myself.

Let’s get one thing clear: Arsenal don’t need a player like Isco. But would the Spaniard improve this team? You betcha!

Isco is Xabi Alonso’s heir at Real Madrid (and in the Spanish international set-up). He’s already one of the best passers in world-football and he’s smart and quick enough to change a game in an instance. If you’re looking for somebody to break down a defense, he’s probably your man.

This must be why he’s earned a £36.6m price-tag. That’s a huge amount of money, especially considering Arsenal’s current need to spend on their defense. But you can’t deny that this is a tempting purchase. If Real Madrid are willing to sell at that kind of price, you would hope that Arsene Wenger would at least be in the running.

Let’s just hope that he’s got enough left over to sort out his defense. He’s going to be busy in the January transfer window!

What’s your take? Is Isco a good choice for The Gunners?
