Should this man be Tottenham’s main January transfer target?

KramerYou know things are bad when you lose to an Alan Pardew led Newcastle United side. The Magpies are 14th in the Premier League table and they’ve been in poor form all season long. Despite this, they had too much for Spurs at the weekend and they ended up winning their Sunday show-down 2-1. The fact that this happened at White Hart Lane makes the situation even worse.

Mauricio Pochettino must be wondering what he’s got himself into. His players just don’t look up to it at the moment. If things don’t change soon, Spurs are going to be in some real trouble.

With all this in mind, it wouldn’t surprise me if Pochettino is already drawing up his plans for the January transfer window. By the time the window opens, he should be ready to snap into action.

This brings me to The Metro‘s claim that Spurs are hoping to solve their problems by signing a German World Cup winner. The man in question is Bayer Leverkusen star, Cristoph Kramer, who will likely have a number of different suitors when the transfer window re-opens.

The 23-year-old has been in fine form for the last 12 months. He’s a ball-winning midfielder, who sits in front of the back four, mops up any loose balls and slams into plenty of tackles. He’s tough, tenacious and extremely hard-working.

With Spurs conceding a lot of sloppy goals, they need a more diligent player in the centre-of-the-park who can help to break-down attacks before they really get started. Kramer could be that man.

Some fans will want to see Spurs add more attacking flair to their team, but if they bring in a defensive midfielder like Kramer, their team will be better balanced and they should be more effective overall. If they’ve got a solid base to build on, that’s going to help them to score more goals (and win more games in the long-runs).

One thing’s for sure: performances like the one that Tottenham put in against Newcastle demand a reaction. Let’s just hope that Mauricio Pochettino is ready to put things right.

What’s your take? Would you like to see Christoph Kramer in a Spurs shirt?
