TaliscaOver the last few weeks, Lukas Podolski has grown increasingly frustrated at his lack of game time at The Emirates. I can’t say that I’m all that surprised. This is a man who has 120 caps for the German international side (scoring 47 goals in the process). How can he not get into a team that regularly finds space for Calum Chambers (who’s just 19-years-old) and Mathieu Flamini (who rarely seems to effect the game in any meaningful way).

Podolski is in the same position as players like Tomas Rosicky and Joel Campbell. It’s clear that he’s got talent, but given Arsene Wenger’s options in this department, he’s just not going to get any game time.

On the rare occasions he has featured, he hasn’t looked quite as sharp as we know he can be. This could be down to a lack of fitness, or it could be a result of him struggling to adapt to Arsenal’s current system. Either way his days at The Emirates seem numbered.

This brings me to The Metro‘s claim that Arsene Wenger is considering selling Podolski to Inter Milan during the January transfer window. That’s interesting news in and of itself, but there’s more. The aforementioned source claims that The Professor will use the money they make from the sale to bring in Benfica star Anderson Talisca.

The Brazilian U21 star has started to build a real name for himself this season. He’s got a huge presence (he’s 6 foot 2 inches tall), he’s physically strong and he’s a clinical finisher. So far this season he’s scored 6 goals in 7 games for Benfica. That’s a fantastic return for a 20-year-old striker. It’s little wonder that Arsenal are interested.

It’s thought that the Portuguese side would be willing to sell their leading man for £17m. that’s a decent sum of cash, but if The Gunners sell Podolski, they should have enough money to drag any potential deal across the line. Let’s not forget that Arsenal’s season ticket prices are the highest in the country. Wenger and co. have to spend this money somehow.

Fans will also want to see The Gunners sign a couple of defenders, but bringing in Anderson Talisca looks like a good start.

What’s your take? Should The Gunners really be interested in this £17m Benfica prodigy?
