martin odegaardLiverpool somehow managed to stumble towards a 3-2 victory over Queens Park Rangers at the weekend, but their overall performance wasn’t all that convincing. Brendan Rodgers’ boys still have a long way to go before they can truly be considered title-contenders.

They lost Luis Suarez in the summer and Daniel Sturridge’s injury issues have effected the team in a major way. With Mario Balotelli failing to provide the goods (at the moment), I can’t help but feel that they should be focusing on the future and putting together a side that can challenge for silverware in the future.

This brings me to The Metro‘s claim that Liverpool are keen to sign Norwegian wonderkid Martin Odegaard. He’s only 15-years-old, so it’s not like he’s going to make an immediate impact at Anfield, but he’s got enough talent to break into the first team over the next couple of years and after that, the sky is the limit.

Odegaard is the youngest ever player to have featured in the European Championships and he’s already got a key role for his club side Stromsgodset. He’s a creative midfielder, who’s great at winning time and space on the ball and capable of delivering a game-changing pass. Yes, he’s still developing (at 15-years-old, he’s probably not ready for the rigours of Premier League football), but there’s plenty to admire about him.

The aforementioned source claims that Barcelona and Manchester United are interested in Martin Odegaard, but that the youngster would personally prefer to move to Anfield. If that’s true, it should give Brendan Rodgers additional impetus to try and close the deal. Having a talented player on your books is one thing, but having one that actually wants to be there is another.

There’s no word as to how much Odegaard might cost Liverpool, but the sooner Brendan and co. can close the deal, the better. This is a player whose price-tag is only going to grow and grow. Best to strike before the iron gets too hot.

What’s your take? Should The Reds make a move for this Norwegian prodigy?
