Could Arsenal finally be in a position to wrap up a deal for this Real Madrid star?

How Mathieu Flamini continues to get game-time over at The Emirates is beyond me. At his peak, he was a tidy player whose competitive edge helped to keep The Gunners in games. Now that he’s 30-years-old and not quite as sprightly as he used to be games seem to be passing him by,

He’s not fast, so he can’t make recovery tackles and he’s not tall so he doesn’t win a lot in the air. Given that he plays as Arsenal’s defensive midfielder, this isn’t exactly ideal. It’s not like The Gunners’ alternative, Mikel Arteta, is a top defender either. The Spaniard is a player who excels at keeping possession, but he’s not a tough-tackler by any means.

With that in mind, Arsenal’s need for a top quality defensive midfielder is all too clear. It’s not like there aren’t quality options out there. Arsene Wenger has been linked to moves for most of them. In particular, The Professor seems to have his eyes on Real Madrid’s want-away holding midfielder, Sami Khedira.

According to The Metro, Arsenal have already agreed personal terms with the German ace. All that’s left to do is to convince Real Madrid to sell up. That shouldn’t be too difficult. After all, Khedira’s Madrid contract will expire at the end of the season when he’ll be able to leave as a free transfer. I’m sure that the Spanish powerhouse will want to sell up during the January transfer window, when they’ll be able to get a fee from the sale.

What’s more, the aforementioned source suggests that Madrid are already looking into potential replacements. Top of their list is Cruziero star Lucas Silva. If that deals goes ahead then the Galacticos really will have no room for Sami Khedira.

Whatever happens in La Liga, let’s hope that Arsenal manage to get their hands on Sami Khedira. He’s tough, he’s tall and he likes a tackle. He’s just what The Gunners need. Let’s just hope that Arsene Wenger recognises this.
