Gonzalo HiguainArsenal made a big step forward this summer by signing former Manchester United star, Danny Welbeck. After being so reliant on Olivier Giroud for so long, a rather limited player with absolutely no pace, the 23-year-old has come over like a breath of fresh air.

Thus far he’s made 7 appearances for Arsenal and has found the back of the net 5 times. When you contrast that return to the 10 he got in 36 for Manchester United last season, it’s clear that there’s been a major improvement since he’s moved to The Emirates.

Isn’t this evidence that Arsenal are a more effective unit when they’ve got a fleet-footed forward who’s capable of making runs in behind and stretching defenses? Shouldn’t The Gunners be trying to do this more?

I can’t help but feel that Olivier Giroud is holding the club back at the moment, despite his finishing ability.

This brings me to The Metro‘s claim that Arsenal are ‘ready to make a bid’ for Napoli’s talented centre-forward Gonzalo Higuain. If Arsenal fans think that Danny Welbeck is good, wait until they get a hold of this talented Argentine centre forward.

Arsene Wenger had been linked with a move for Higuain two summers ago, but it fell through. In the end, The Gunners ended up signing Mesut Ozil instead, which probably wasn’t a bad thing.

The former Real Madrid star ended up at Napoli instead, where he’s scored 27 goals and made 16 assists in 55 games. You can see how effective he is and that’s despite Napoli’s struggles in recent times. The Serie A side failed to qualify for Champions League football this season and are currently smack-bang in the middle of the table. It wouldn’t surprise me if Higuain were looking for an escape route.

The aforementioned source claims that Liverpool are also interested, but that Arsenal are making the ‘first move’ by ‘lodging a giant bid’. It looks like things are really heating up. Let’s just hope that Arsene Wenger can beat Brendan Rodgers to the punch.

What’s your take? Can The Gunners really pull off a deal for Gonzalo Higuain?
