WalcottWith the recent news that Olivier Giroud has signed (or is about to sign) a new contract with The Gunners that will keep him at The Emirates until 2016, fans are waiting to see who Arsene Wenger ties down next. Given that The Professor has signed off on The Frenchman’s bumper new salary (Giroud will now be earning £80k-a-week), it’s clear that his club has a decent amount of money to deal with.

According to The Metro, The Gunners are looking to offer Theo Walcott ‘a new bumper contract’. If they can pull that off, they’ll have most of the important members of their first team on long-term deals, more or less securing the future of the club. Of course, if they want to bring about some serious success, they’re going to have sort out their defense. But that’s another matter entirely.

I think it’s fair to say that Arsenal have missed Theo Walcott whilst he’s been out on his long-term injury. The British winger’s pace is often a threat in and of itself. When The Gunners are struggling to break opposition down, he’s got a little something extra in his locker that can turn a game.

More importantly, he’s one of the best finishers at the club. He’s able to add a bit of Thierry Henry-esque curve to his shots that often sees them bend past the keeper. He’s also got a good cross on him, which is an area of the game that The Gunners have struggled with this season.

With his contract up in 2016, it makes sense to get him locked down with a longer deal. Other clubs are bound to start declaring their interest if his current deal begins to wind down.

It wasn’t so long ago that Theo Walcott agreed a three-and-a-half year new deal worth £100k-a-week. What will Arsenal have to do to convince him to stay at the club even longer? That remains to be seen. Let’s just hope that Arsene Wenger and the rest of the Arsenal hierarchy are willing to put their money where their mouth is.

What’s your take? Should The Gunners offer Theo Walcott improved terms?
