The best young player currently plying his trade in the Premier League is Liverpool’s Raheem Sterling. The fleet-footed youngster is a prodigious talent. He’s got all the quality necessary to blossom into a world-class footballer. As things currently stand, he’s not too far off.
He may only be 19-years-old, but he’s already got 82 professional appearances to his name. He’s also managed to nab 15 goals.
Last season he got 10 from 37 appearances. This season he’s got 3 from 6. He really is on the verge of the big time. It’s a little frightening to think how good he’ll be when he’s 24/25-years-old. Do The Reds have a Cristiano Ronaldo level talent on their hands here?
We can dream, can’t we?
The Ronaldo reference is rather apt, as various sources have been reporting that Real Madrid are interested in signing Raheem Sterling. Naturally enough, this should concern Liverpool fans. After all, Madrid have the financial force to muscle Sterling out of Anfield.
If they make a big money offer, The Reds could be forced into selling.
Luckily, Brendan Rodgers has been bullish about the player’s future. Check out these comments from a recent interview:
With three years left on his current contract, The Reds are in a strong position. But it wouldn’t hurt to tie him down to a longer contract with improved terms. After all, if Real Madrid do come knocking and offer him a big salary, he’s less likely to have his head turned if he’s already pocketing a lot of cash at Liverpool.
And besides, doesn’t he deserve it? He’s one of The Reds’ best players and he’s only 19. Let’s just hope the Liverpool hierarchy give him his due!
What’s your take? Should Liverpool offer Raheem Sterling improved terms?
