BrandtSince joining Liverpool, Brendan Rodgers has made a concerted effort to snap up plenty of fresh young talent. This has put The Reds in a rather enviable position. Not only are they strong now, it looks like they’re going to continue to improve and get even better over the coming years.

Let’s hope that Brendan Rodgers doesn’t change his ways. He’s worked miracles so far and I’d love to see him pull off a few more top signings in the January transfer market.

This brings me to The Metro‘s claim that The Reds are currently hot on the trail of Bayer Leverkusen starlet, Julian Brandt. And why wouldn’t they be? The 18-year-old is one of the biggest young talents on the world circuit. It looks like he’s got a big future ahead of him.

He enjoyed his formative years at VfL Wolfsburg Academy before moving to Leverkusen in 2013. Since then he’s gone from strength to strength, making 14 appearances for his new club and scoring 3 goals. Not bad for a youngster in a top League.

He’s also been capped for Germany at U19 level and was part of the team that was victorious at last summer’s UEFA U19 Championship. In other words, he has a decent amount of experience for such a young player.

In general, he’s impressed with his technique, attacking mind-set and ability to pick out a pass. When he grows into his body and develops a little more physicality, he’s sure to be a big hit. What’s more, if he makes a move to Liverpool, his career is sure to accelerate.

Unfortunately, if Brendan Rodgers really is interested, he’s not going to have everything his own way. The aforementioned source notes that Chelsea are also interested in the youngster. The Blues certainly have the financial firepower to attract the youngster.

But The Reds should be able to offer more game-time. It’ll be interesting to see what Brandt picks. Let’s hope he’s the ambitious type.

What’s your take? Could The Reds close a deal for Julian Brandt? Should they get into a transfer battle with Chelsea?
