Paco Alcacer (Valencia)Arsenal spent big on Danny Welbeck on deadline day, in the hope that the £16m striker was the answer to all their prayers.

With their main man, Olivier Giroud, out injured for the rest of the season, they needed a talented replacement to step-up. There didn’t seem to be anybody in the squad ready for this challenge (despite Yaya Sanogo’s best efforts), so Arsene Wenger went out and snapped up the 23-year-old striker who was struggling to hold down a regular place in Manchester United’s first team.

He made his debut against Manchester City, where you could immediately see what he’s going to offer The Gunners going forward. He’s got pace, determination and he’s a confident finisher. If only his lofted finish found the back of the net (instead of hitting the post), he would have been able to get his Arsenal career off to a flying start.

Still, beyond Olivier Giroud and Danny Welbeck, Arsenal are still short of options in this department. Compare The Gunners striking situation to that of Manchester City and Manchester United. The two Manchester clubs are spoiled for choice, whilst the North London side is a little more limited.

This brings me to the news that The Gunners are keen on signing Valencia’s intriguing young forward, Paco Alcacer. Chelsea are also thought to be interested in the 21-year-old, so Arsenal won’t have everything their own way.

The Metro claim that Alcacer has a £15m release clause written into his Valencia contract. What’s more, he’s only got 22 months left until his deal runs out. In other words, he could well be on the verge of move in the near future.

His talent at a young age is quite remarkable. Last season he made 37 appearances for Valencia and found the back of the net 14 times. This season, he’s played 3 times, has scored twice and chipped in with 1 assist. Not too shabby, eh?

If he’s really available for as little as £15m, The Gunners would do well to snap him up. He would provide the likes of Olivier Giroud and Danny Welbeck with all the competition they need to stop them from firing blanks.

What’s your take? Do The Gunners need another striker? Is Paco Alcacer the man for the job?
