Carlos BaccaI know that Arsenal fans have never been all that keen on Loic Remy, but I bet that they all felt a tinge of regret when Chelsea snapped him up yesterday. He was one of the few decent strikers left available in the transfer market, but Wenger wasn’t willing to do the business.

It’s interesting that Chelsea have Diego Costa (who’s scoring goals for fun), Didier Drogba and others at their club, but still felt the need to go out and buy another high-quality option. With Oliviier Giroud’s injury, The Gunners just don’t have any options of comparable quality.

Lukas Podolski, Alexis Sanchez, Theo Walcott and Joel Campbell are all better down the flanks. None of these individuals are proven strikers (despite Arsene Wenger’s claims to the contrary).

I’d argue that Arsenal are in desperate need of a recruit in this department. To go without would be a big mistake that could end up completely dis-railing their season.

That’s why I was glad to see The Metro claim that Arsenal are preparing a deadline day bid for Sevilla striker Carlos Bacca. He’s not the most exciting player in the world, but he’s a decent enough option. Needs must.

The 27-year-old managed to find the back of the net 21 times in 52 games for Sevilla last season (those figures are comparable to Olivier Giroud). Maybe playing alongside Arsenal’s talented midfield, he’d find a way to kick on and become even more potent in front of goal.

The aforementioned source notes that Bacca has a £27.6m release clause written into his Sevilla contract. Luckily, his club are thought to be willing to let him leave for just £12.5m. That’s a considerably more Arsenal-friendly fee. It may even be cheap enough to tempt Arsene Wenger into making a move.

One thing’s for sure: The Gunners can’t afford to sit still and get caught with their pants down. They need to take action. Bacca may be just the man for the job.

What’s your take? Would Carlos Bacca be a good addition to Arsenal’s forward line-up?
