Is this the perfect free agent target for Arsenal?

Lassana DiarraGiven the nature of Arsenal’s defeat at the hands of Borussia Dortmund, every player they’ve got linked to this week has come off like a desperate attempt to steady their rocking ship.

The Gunners were all over the place in Germany. In truth, they looked like a group of players who had never met each other before, let alone spent time together on the football pitch. The great majority of passes missed their mark, they offered little going forward and looked extremely brittle in defense.

How have Arsenal managed to find themselves in this position, when they seemed to make a number of decent new signings in the summer? It’s a bizarre situation to say the least.

It’s not clear that bringing in further personnel will fix Arsenal’s issues (I’d argue that Arsene Wenger needs to tinker with his system and start playing his best players in their best position), but it certainly can’t hurt to roll the die. This is especially true if The Professor is able to locate a decent free agent.

This brings me to The Metro‘s claim that Arsenal are currently ‘weighing up a move’ for long-term transfer target, Lassana Diarra. He actually spent half a season with Arsenal back in 2007. Could Arsenal’s difficult situation force a return back to the club? Let’s not rule anything out at this stage!

The 29-year-old would be available as a free agent, having left Russian side Lokomotiv Moscow in the summer. The aforementioned source mentions that he’s keen on a move back to the Premier League. With that in mind, I’m sure he’d fancy a shot at a top club like Arsenal.

Too many of Arsenal’s midfielders just aren’t producing the goods. Bringing somebody in to shake things up could be just the ticket. I certainly wouldn’t turn my nose up at the arrival of Lassana Diarra.

What’s your take? Should the Gunners make a move for this freebie signing? Would Lassana Diarra improve the squad?
