Antonio CandrevaLiverpool were madly busy during the summer transfer market, but if you believe the papers, they’re set to do a lot more business when the window re-opens this January.

Of course, the summer transfer window only closed a couple of weeks back, so it’s difficult to assess what The Reds’ needs might be by the time that January rolls by. Still, if Brendan Rodgers missed out on a target during the summer, he may opt to move back in for the player in the New Year.

The Metro claim that Brendan Rodgers has ‘already told senior club officials’ that he’s looking to bring in a quality winger as soon as possible.

Did he not just sign Lazar Markovic this summer? Do The Reds really need another player in this area of the pitch.

For what it’s worth, I can’t help but feel that with Raheem Sterling now playing through the middle, the flanks are where Liverpool are weakest. If Brendan Rodgers is ready to drop some more cash this summer, bringing in a winger could be a good move.

Luckily, The Metro also line up a decent option for The Reds. They suggest that Brendan Rodgers has made Lazio’s wing-wizard Antonio Candreva the club’s ‘top target’.

The 27-year-old’s reputation has grown significantly over the last couple of seasons. He’s an exciting player to watch, because he always looks so at ease on the ball. He’s got a neat change of pace, great dribbling ability and a stinging cross on him.

He’s also fairly effective in front of goal. In 87 appearances for Lazio, he has found the back of the net 21 times.

It’s easy enough to see why Brendan Rodgers would be interested in signing Candreva.

Unfortunately, Candreva won’t come cheap. The aforementioned source suggests that it could cost £23.8m to wrap this deal up. Now we just have to wait and see how serious Brenda Rodgers is about this whole affair. Fingers crossed!

What’s your take? Could The Reds really wrap up a deal for the Italian superstar?
