Does Morgan Schneiderlin deserve to leave Southampton?

SchneiderlinSouthampton’s summer exodus was quite magnificent, but there was one player who didn’t manage to make it to the exit door, before the transfer window slammed shut. The man in question is Morgan Schneiderlin, who has made it clear to everybody who’ll listen that he want to leave St Mary’s in the summer.

But with The Saints losing so many important players (Adam Lallana, Calum Chambers, Luke Shaw, Rickie Lambert, etc. The list goes on and on…) they just couldn’t afford to let go of their French enforcer. They had to draw a line in the sand somewhere and they chose to do that with Schneiderlin.

Still, the Frenchman’s disappointment is more or less palpable. He was vocal about his desire to leave the club during the summer. Now that we’re smack-bang in the middle of Premier League action, he’s still shown a willingness to speak to the media about his situation.

Let’s take a look at his most recent comments:

“My situation was simple: at the end of the season my goal was to take the next step and join a club playing in the Champions League or the Europa League.” (Source: The Metro)

That’s fair enough. I think we can all appreciate a player who’s ambitious. But isn’t there something to be said for loyalty? Particularly given the club’s situation.

“There were offers on the table but Southampton made a clear choice, which was to keep me after the departure of certain players. They look to me for the future”

“I was ‘blocked’ but I must accept that because I have three years remaining on my contract. I could not afford to make a fuss and not play. I owe a lot to Southampton, who enabled me to make the France national team. I could not afford to go and clash with supporters who have always been cool with me. It would not have been cool for me to end up in an endless showdown.”

These are all quite reasonable statements, but they don’t gel particularly well with the fact that he’s speaking to the press about his desire to leave the club. Isn’t it time he got his head down, focused on performances and looked to earn a move away?

My guess is that Morgan Schneiderlin won’t be here next summer. Another season at Southampton is something like purgatory. He’s now got to prove himself worthy before he gets to move on to paradise.

What’s your take? What does the future hold for Morgan Schneiderlin?

Why did he sign a four year contract knowing full well he wanted to leave after one? He ended up being jealous of the other players because they went to bigger clubs.Like all footballers if you make their life financially secure they want something else more gratifying, football and simple riches are not enough. Why doesn’t he stay and get satisfaction from earning his CL place with Saints. RVP with Man Utd hasn’t got CL and he thought he was walking into a team with it.
Earn it my boy, earn it, then you’ll REALLY appreciate it just like the rise from League One.
