Could Arsenal STILL be in the market for Edinson Cavani?

Cavani2When Arsenal signed Danny Welbeck on deadline day, fans didn’t seem to know how to react. His questionable goal-scoring record whilst at Manchester United had some claiming that he wasn’t the right man for The Gunners.

Others were a little more positive. Some felt that all Welbeck needed was a change of scenery to get him firing again.

On the evidence of his first two games in an Arsenal shirt, fans will probably start favouring the negative approach.

It’s harsh to knock a player who’s still adapting to his new surroundings, but Arsenal are in a tough spot at the moment and they need a flash of inspiration. At the moment, Welbeck doesn’t look capable of providing them with this.

I can’t have been the only one hoping that Arsenal would go in for a big name striker in the summer? If Alexis Sanchez is destined to spend most of his time down the flanks, it’s a little surprising that Wenger didn’t choose to bring somebody else in with a higher profile.

Perhaps this signing can come in a latter edition of the transfer window? I’m sure Arsenal fans will have been interested to see The Metro claim that their club is on ‘alert’, thanks to reports suggesting that Paris Saint Germain’s superstar striker, Edinson Cavani, is ready to leave his current club in search of a new challenge.

The source suggests that the Uruguayan sensation is frustrated with being continually played out of position. It can’t be fun living in Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s shadow, especially when you’re a quality player yourself.

Cavani’s goal-scoring record speaks for itself. In 138 appearances for Napoli, he scored 104 goals. Since moving to Paris, he’s scored 27 goals in 47 games, despite having been played out of position a number of times. With this kind of threat going forward, perhaps he’s good enough to force Arsenal back into contention for silverware.

Arsenal are short on confidence and low on goals. This looks like a signing that could right both those wrongs. Let’s just hope that Arsene Wenger is willing to consider the deal.

What’s your take? Could Arsenal possibly snap up Edinson Cavani?
