C Ronaldo 1Now that the transfer window has slammed shut, the papers can’t seem to stop linking The Red Devils to their ex-charge, Cristiano Ronaldo. Talk about bad timing. Couldn’t these rumours have started popping up a month or so ago?

Unfortunately, that could never have happened. Various sources are reporting that Cristiano Ronaldo’s frustration has arisen as a result of Real Madrid’s transfer policy. It’s thought that the Portuguese ace was upset to see both Xabi Alonso and Angel Di Maria leave the club.

Check out Ronaldo’s quotes regarding the sale of Di Maria:

“I have strong opinions but I can’t always say what I think. Otherwise it would be on the front page tomorrow and I don’t want that. But if it was up to me, I wouldn’t have done so [sold Angel].”

His pain can only have intensified with the knowledge that Alonso has put in two Man of the Match performances for Bayern Munich and that Angel Di Maria has impressed against Germany (during the recent flurry of international games) and inspired Manchester United to a 4-0 victory over Queens Park Rangers.

Given what Cristiano has done for Real Madrid over the years, I think he’s right to feel some sense of entitlement over his club’s transfer policy. Whether this is enough to convince him to jump ship is still open to debate.

Could he be on his way back to Old Trafford? The Express claim that Louis Van Gaal is hoping to use Angel Di Maria (and Ronaldo’s history with the club) to lure the Portuguese wing-wizard back to Manchester. They also suggest that £60m could be enough to close the deal.

That’s a huge sum of cash, but we are talking about one of the best players in the world here. He’s better than Angel Di Maria, he’s better than Radamel Falcao and he’s better than just about anybody who has plied their trade at Manchester United since he left the club.

He’d improve the side immeasurably. Let’s just hope that Angel Di Maria proves to be persuasive.

What’s your take? What does the future hold for Cristiano Ronaldo?
