Alessio Cerci (Torino)Arsenal are now in a rather desperate situation. Despite Arsene Wenger’s protestations to the contrary, The Gunners are perilously short of striking options. If they don’t bring somebody else in, they’re just not going to have the firepower to make it through the rest of the season.

Olivier Giroud’s injury has revealed just how limited The Gunners are upfront. It’s odd that a club that’s famed for its striking talent is currently in this position. Shouldn’t Arsene Wenger have guarded against this?

Yaya Sanogo is convincing nobody. Lukas Podolski, Theo Walcott and Joel Campbell look more like wingers than strikers. Alexis Sanchez often struggles to break into games down the centre. The solution, must surely lie in a last ditch move in the transfer market. But who can they look to?

Loic Remy has already been snapped up (by Chelsea none the less), but there are still good options out there. How about Alessio Cerci, Torino’s winger/striker? The 27-year-old has proven himself worthy in Serie A and has also managed to accrue 13 caps for the Italian international team.

In these desperate times, he’s certainly worth a look. As luck would have it, The Mirror claim that Arsenal have ‘leapt to the front of the queue’ for the £16m rated Cerci. They also carry the following quotes from Torino president Urbano Cairo:

“Cerci’s sale is still possible and he has asked to leave. I’ve given him my word that we’ll sell him if an adequate offer arrives. With Milan it’s all over. Arsenal? There are several options.”

If he’s asked to leave then the door is wide open for The Gunners to swoop in and swipe him up. It’s also worth noting that Cairo rules out AC Milan (who have just agreed a long-term loan deal for Fernando Torres, of all people), but he doesn’t rule out Arsenal.

Does this suggest that The Gunners’ interest in genuine? I certainly hope so. Torino got 13 goals last season, mainly from wide positions. Here’s hoping that he’s even more threatening down the middle.

What’s your take? How do Arsenal solve their striking crisis?
