Radamel Falcao (Monaco)Speaking after Liverpool’s 2-1 victory over their feeder club, Southampton, goal-scorer Daniel Sturridge told the press:

“There’s pressure on myself to get the goals now. With Luis [Suarez] out the team and of course he scored 30 odds goals last season… With the players the manager’s brought in, no disrespect to Luis, he’s a great player and he will be missed, but we move on from that now.” (Source: Goal.com)

These comments are interesting as they reveal that there’s still a sense in which Liverpool feel they are short of options upfront. Whilst Sturridge is a good striker, he’s no Luis Suarez, which some may suggest makes The Reds weaker than they were last year.

That’s why Mario Balotelli has been brought in. Whether he can help provide The Reds with the firepower they need to success remains to be seen. Interestingly enough, The Reds continue to get linked to big-name options.Perhaps Brendan Rodgers is looking to hedge his bets?

This brings me to The Reds continued interest in Monaco’s hot-shot striker, Radamel Falcao. The Colombian ace is one of the few forwards in the world who can compete with Luis Suarez when it comes to pure goal-scoring nous.  He’d also come complete with a colossal price-tag. Could Liverpool be about to land a marquee signing?

The Metro recently published an article suggesting that Real Madrid are now out of the running to sign Radamel Falcao. Liverpool’s main competition now is Juventus, who view Falcao as a potential replacement for Fernando Llorente whose days in Turin could be limited.

CaughtOffside notes that a loan deal for Falcao could be on the cards for The Reds. They suggest that Monaco would demand a £12m loan fee, whilst requiring Liverpool to pay his £200k-a-week wage demands. That’s one mighty expensive loan deal!

Still, quality doesn’t come cheap and we are talking about one of the best strikers on the planet here. Let’s just hope that Brendan Rodgers can pull this one off.

What’s your take? Can Liverpool really wrap up a deal for Radamel Falcao?
