Why Arsenal SHOULD go back in for this £10m ace:

Alex Song (Cameroon)Arsene Wenger had an opportunity to re-sign Cesc Fabregas, a former Arsenal captain earlier this summer. As we know, he turned the opportunity down. Cesc ended up moving to another Premier League club – Chelsea – where he’s looked right at home (did you see his assist against Burnley?).

With this in mind, I wonder how Arsenal fans would feel if Arsene Wenger were to snap up a different former star – Alex Song. Would that be evidence that The Professor has finally lost his marbles?

Both Cesc and Alex have spent the last couple of seasons with Barcelona, but it’s fair to say that the Spaniard has been a lot more prominent than the Cameroonian. Cesc has blossomed into one of the best midfielders in the world, whilst Alex Song’s career has stagnated.

For some reason, the Barcelona hierarchy decided that Cesc Fabregas was surplus to requirements. If they felt that way about one of the best midfielders in the game, they’re unlikely to feel any differently about Alex Song. If Arsenal really are interested in bringing him back to The Emirates, I’m sure he’s available.

With Arsenal short of defensive options, this rumour isn’t all that far-fetched. In fact, The Metro claim that Arsenal are readying a £10m move to bring Song back to his former club. They also include a great image alongside the article – go ahead, check it out and then hurry back.

Song’s not as exciting an option as Real Madrid’s Sami Khedira (who Arsenal have also been linked to throughout the summer), but he’s an astute defender with plenty of Premier League experience. He’s not the most disciplined individual and he seems to make poor decisions (if his move to Barcelona is anything to go by), but he does have certain qualities.

He’s tough, he’s competitive and he’s not afraid to get his hands dirty. Isn’t that exactly what Arsenal need this season? Better the devil you know, than the devil you don’t.

What’s your take? Should The Gunners swoop in for Alex Song? Does he deserve a second shot at The Emirates?
