Alessio Cerci (Torino)Olivier Giroud’s injury finally seems to have forced Arsene Wenger’s hand. I’ve felt for a while that Arsenal are curiously short of options upfront. Now that the Frenchman is facing a long-term lay-off, The Professor has little choice but to reach back into the transfer market in an attempt to rectify the situation.

Thus far, they’ve been linked to the same old crowd. Names like Danny Welbeck and Loic Remy have popped up. The Gunners have even been linked with a sensational move for Napoli’s Edinson Cavani.

But none of these look like particularly realistic options. If Wenger wanted Welbeck or Remy, why wouldn’t he have gone in for them earlier? Can The Gunners really afford to compete for Edinson Cavani, having just spent big on Alexis Sanchez?

I find it far more likely that Arsene Wenger will snap up someone unexpected. Isn’t that usually his way?

This brings me to The Metro‘s claim that Arsenal have approached Serie A side Torino, with an enquiry regarding the availability of their striker, Alessio Cerci. Is this Italian ace the right choice for The Gunners?

The 27-year-old certainly seems to have hit form. Last season he scored 13 goals in 37 appearances as Torino finished 7th in the Serie A table. He was also part of the Italy team that got defeated by Costa Rica during the World Cup.

Whilst those figures aren’t exactly ground-breaking, they do demonstrate his ability to find the back of the net. It also strikes me that he’s a good fill in for Olivier Giroud. He’s tall, he’s tough and he’s not afraid to stick his foot in. He’s good with his back to goal, which is how Arsenal strikers seem to play their football nowadays.

The Metro claim that Cerci could be available for around £15m. That’s a lot of money, but desperate times call for desperate measures. The Gunners need a striker and it looks like Alessio Cerci is available. Make your move Arsene!

What’s your take? Is Alessio Cerci the right choice for The Gunners?

After watching Arsenal play today Arsene, i know now why, they call you “ARSENE PLONKER”,
Can you tell me why,you left a member of Germany’s world cup winning team on the bench,a
player that has played more than 100 times for his country, and you prefered to play a so called
striker, that just hasn’t got a clue, who’s no more than a sunday league player, that will never make it,you allowed him to play for 80 mins: after missing three good chances,to score, you
made a change,it was too late by then. Arsene, just think about this, according to the match
stats, Arsenal had 27 chances on goal, and scored one, doesn’t that tell you something is missing. I will end by saying,if you don’t do something in the next 2 4 hrs: your season is finished, with what I saw today, my prediction is, “NO SILVERWARE AND LUCKY TO FINISH IN TOP TEN,”
