Should Arsenal swoop for this £15m Manchester United ace?

Danny WelbeckIn one of the weirder rumours to have popped up this summer, The Gunners have been linked with a surprise move for Manchester United star, Danny Welbeck.

With Welbeck more or less surplus to requirements at Old Trafford, it’s not surprising that he’s getting linked with a move away. But is he really a good fit for Arsenal?

The Metro note that Louis Van Gaal has told Welbeck that he’s not going to be in his plans moving forward. If that’s really the case, I’m sure that the 23-year-old English forward will be keen to secure a move away before the transfer window slams shut. Time’s running out.

The aforementioned source claims that Arsenal are considering making a £15m move for Welbeck. Whether that’s enough to seal the deal remains to be seen, but it should certainly provoke Van Gaal’s interest.

Whilst Arsene Wenger has been keen to play down the need for more centre-forward options, I can’t help but feel that this is one of the weakest areas of their squad.

Olivier Giroud is good for 20+ goals per season, but he could use a bit of support upfront. If he gets injured then who else do The Gunners have to turn to?

Yaya Sanogo? He’s still too raw and inexperienced. In his outing against Crystal Palace he looked strangely ineffective.

Alexis Sanchez? Arsene Wenger experimented playing the Chilean down the middle against Everton last weekend. I think it’s fair to say that it didn’t quite work.

But is Danny Welbeck the answer? What Arsenal need more than anything else is goals. Looking at the 23-year-old’s record, it’s not clear he can provide this.

In 139 appearances for Manchester United, he’s found the back of the net 33 times. Olivier Giroud, on the other hand, has scored 41 goals in 102 outings for The Gunners. I’m not sure he’ll see Danny Welbeck as much of a threat.

Given that this is the case, it seems strange to suggest that Arsenal should shell out £15m on Danny Welbeck. If Wenger really was interested in bringing in a striker, surely he would have made a move for Mario Balotelli before Liverpool snapped him up?

What’s your take? Should Arsenal be interested in Danny Welbeck?

ermmm, No.Arsenal has better goal scorers already in their team. Welbeck would’t make any sense and Im sure they are not after him.

  • Danny Salford Red says:

Really hope they do ask about him so we can return the Vermaelen favour and request Ozil and Ramsey in a swap deal……………

  • Duncan Ekechukwu says:

Yes, we really need a strong and tall striker who can hold the ball down and also nick some goals, he is young and will improve under Arsene as Sonogo is injury prone.
