Adrien RabiotWhen it comes to young French talent, Arsene Wenger just can’t seem to help himself. If there’s a Ligue 1 talent in the marketplace you can bet that Arsenal will register their interest.

The Professor’s clued up when it comes to French football. He knows the game inside out and he knows which players have the potential to become big stars in the future. When he singles a player out, it’s usually for a good reason. When he makes a move for a young Frenchman, there’s usually plenty of cause for excitement.

Even Yaya Sanogo, a recent French addition, is starting to make his mark at The Emirates, after a year of struggle and restraint.

But we’re not here to talk about Yaya. Let’s focus instead on Arsenal’s interest in Paris Saint Germain prodigy, Adrien Rabiot. The Metro recently ran an article suggesting that The Gunners are a ‘frontrunner’ for his signature, along with Serie A clubs Juventus and Roma.

The source also suggests that PSG are willing to listen to offers for the 19-year-old midfielder. This shouldn’t surprise anybody. Thanks to limited game-time, Rabiot has turned down offers of a new contract with the Paris-based club. His contract expires at the end of this season, so it’s little surprise that they want to sell him on.

PSG’s lack of interest in the player could help Arsenal to seal a cut-price deal.

It has to be said: this doesn’t look like an essential signing. Arsenal already have plenty of exciting attacking midfielders. It’s unlikely that Rabiot would be a first team regular at The Emirates.

But with players like Santi Cazorla, Tomas Rosicky and Mikel Arteta getting on in years and Abou Diaby a constant injury doubt, there could be room for him in this Arsenal first team somewhere down the line. He’d just need to remain patient.

Wenger is a master at developing young footballers. If he thinks Rabiot has a big future, then who are we to doubt him?

What’s your take? Should Arsenal really be interested in this £19m French talent?
