Why Liverpool should spend big on this £31.8m La Liga superstar:

Now that Luis Suarez has slung his hook, The Reds need to find a way of adding a significant amount of attacking threat to their forward line-up. Over the last couple of seasons the Uruguayan has carried this Liverpool side on his back in an attacking sense.

Sure, Daniel Sturridge has helped to lighten his load, but there’s no doubt who was the top dog at Liverpool. Despite all his issues, Luis Suarez will be missed at Anfield.

Luckily, Brendan Rodgers is a smart cookie. Just because his best player has left, he’s not going to let his side lie down and die. There’s a good chance that The Reds are going to come back even stronger than last season.

Liverpool fans will certainly have their fingers crossed that this is the case. Brendan Rodgers has already proven that he’s an astute worker of the transfer market. Let’s just hope that he continues his run during this particular transfer window.

This brings me to The Mirror‘s claim that Liverpool are hot on the trail of Atletico Madrid’s Arda Turan, who they tout as a ‘replacement’ for Luis Suarez. Given that he’s a winger and that Suarez was (and still is, I suppose) a striker, I’m not sure how they justify this.

Still, there’s little doubt that Arda Turan is a good option. The 27-year-old Turkish ace was a major part of the Atletico Madrid side that won La Liga last year, breaking Real Madrid and Barcelona’s dominance over Spanish football.

He made 46 appearances last season, scored 9 goals and made 6 assists. he can be effective in the final third and his pace, direct running and trickery are often a joy to behold. It’s easy to see why The Reds might be interested. Even if he’s not brought in as a direct replacement for Luis Suarez, he has plenty to offer this Liverpool attack.

The Mirror suggest that Arda Turan could cost The Reds as much as £31.8m. That’s a lot of money, yet I can’t help but hope that Rodgers is willing to cough it up and close the deal.
