Morgan Schneiderlin (France)Whilst Arsenal signed Mesut Ozil last summer, they’re having an even better transfer window this time round. They’ve already signed Alexis Sanchez (a world class forward) and Mathieu Debuchy (a decent replacement for Bacary Sagna) and at the time of writing, it looks likely that they’ll agree deals for both David Ospina (Colombia’s World Cup keeper) and Calum Chambers (another top-class Southampton full-back).

In other words, Arsene Wenger hasn’t been resting on his laurels this summer. He’s located the issues within his squad and he’s brought in players who can help to improve the club’s prospects. What more can you ask for?

How about a defensive midfielder? Whilst Arsenal looked like an improved defensive unit last season, they weren’t faultless. They succumbed to some big defeats against their main title rivals. If they want to go all the way next season, they’ll need to fix their big game nerves.

Bringing in a midfield enforcer type could prove to be just the ticket. Whilst both Mikel Arteta and Mathieu Flamini are fierce competitors, neither of them have the physicality or athleticism necessary to help Arsenal dominate their opponents.

This brings me to The Gunners rumoured interest in Southampton’s holding midfielder, Morgan Schneiderlin. Could he be the answer to Arsenal’s prayers?

Southampton have been victims of their own success this summer. They’ve had the spine ripped out of their team and it’s difficult to see how they might recover. Selling Morgan Schneiderlin could prove to be the final nail in their coffin.

But the Frenchman would be another excellent addition to this Arsenal squad. He’s an energetic presence, who’s big in stature and strong in the tackle. He’s also pretty effective when he’s on the ball, with his quick, accurate passing proving to be a real asset for Southampton last season.

Unfortunately (for Arsenal), Schneiderlin wont come cheap. The Metro claim that Southampton rate him higher that they did Luke Shaw and that they won’t sell for less than £27m.

That’s a lot of money, but he would come complete with plenty of Premier League experience and a great reputation. If Arsenal have the cash to spend, bringing in Schneiderlin could prove to be a smart decision.

What’s your take? Should Arsenal spend big on this Southampton star?

What we need as Arsenal fans is good expenditure for the positions so as to heal from the humiliation of cup drought.
So Wenger should have it in his mind that waiting for the last minute has never made anybody go to heaven act now when good bulls are in the market.
