Should Liverpool trigger this £20m release clause?

BonyLiverpool have been spending freely since the start of the summer transfer market, but their current situation practically necessitates this.

After a break-out season, they’ve now suffered the loss of their best player. Luis Suarez has finally got his way and secured a passage to Barcelona. In doing so, he’s provided The Reds with an additional £75m worth of spending money.

Brendan Rodgers will have to work overtime this summer, but I’m sure he’s excited to have this kind of money to work with. If he brings in the right players he could transform Liverpool into a genuine powerhouse of English football (y’know, like they used to be!).

Now that Suarez has slung his hook, The Reds will need to find a way of replacing his goals.

This surely explains why Liverpool continue to get linked to players like Wilfried Bony. The Mirror claim that The Reds have already had a bid knocked back for the Ivory Coast international and that Rodgers is ‘ready to up his offer’.

They also suggest that Bony has a £20m release clause written into his Swansea City contract. If Brendan Rodgers is willing to part with that much money, this deal shouldn’t be too difficult to wrap up.

There’s simply no doubting Bony’s goal-scoring record. Whilst playing in the Eredivisie he scored 53 goals in 73 appearances for Vitesse Arhem. He’s also managed to break into the Premier League too, scoring 25 goals for The Swans last season. Considering that this was his first season on British soil, that’s an impressive return.

The thought of Wilfried Bony and Daniel Sturridge playing alongside each other is very exciting indeed.Whilst neither of them appear to have Luis Suarez’s technical ability, they’re both out-and-out goal-scorers and would be sure to cause all kinds of problems for Premier League defenses at both ends of the table.

With that in mind, here’s hoping that Brendan Rodgers triggers Bony’s release clause. This could prove to be one of the most important deals of Liverpool’s summer.

What’s your take? Is Wilfried Bony the right choice for Liverpool?
