Since selling Luis Suarez, The Reds have been playing in a completely different financial ballpark. They’re suddenly chasing some of the biggest, brightest and best footballers in Europe.
If their spending spree continues, the memory of Luis Suarez may well soon be forgotten. Liverpool fans will certainly hope that this is the case.
According to The Mirror, The Reds are interested in Real Madrid’s sprightly young midfielder, Isco. That’s another exciting player who just happens to have popped up on Liverpool’s wish-list, since Suarez slung his hook.
Isco has been able to establish himself alarmingly quickly since moving to The Bernabeu last summer. He’s made 53 appearances for Madrid, scoring 11 goals and making 8 assists. That’s an excellent return for a young player – let’s not forget, he’s just 22-years-old.
Yes, he benefited from Xabi Alonso’s long-term injury, but there’s every reason to believe he would have got plenty of game-time last season, regardless of the personnel blocking his route to first-team action. He’s that damn good.
But things could well prove to be different next season. The Reds have already snapped up Toni Kroos from Bayern Munich. James Rodriguez could well be the next player in the door. Competition is heating up at The Bernabeu. Could Isco end up suffering as a result?
As good as the young Spaniard is, there’s a chance that he’ll get less game time next year. Perhaps this is the right time for Liverpool to swoop in and swipe him up?
The Reds are on the hunt for a long-term replacement for Steven Gerrard (who recently retired from the England international side – how long does he have left at club level?) and Isco looks like the perfect choice.
He’s technically gifted, he’s hard-working and he scores goals. Why wouldn’t Brendan be interested?
The source claims that Madrid will want to recoup much of the £23m they spent on him last summer. The Reds have cash to spend this summer, so may well be able to close the deal. Let’s hope that Brendan Rodgers gives it a go, either way.
