Should Liverpool forge ahead with this ‘cut-price deal’?

Micah Richards (Manchester City)It’s been sad to watch Micah Richard’s career slow to a crawl at Manchester City. Whilst he was once an important player for the Sky Blues, he’s gradually been phased out to the extent that he rarely gets any game-time whatsoever anymore.

That’s one of the big problems relating to Manchester City’s current financial fortitude: good players tend to get lost in the mix.

Consider this: Richards made 37 appearances for City back in 2011/12. The following season he made just 8 appearances. Last year, Manuel Pellegrini suggested that he’d give Richards a fair run. In the end, he made 10 appearances for Manchester City.

He’s a player who’s in desperate need of a career pick-me-up. As it happens, The Reds also have a need for one-or-two new defensive recruits this summer. Could this be a match made in heaven?

Defending was the weakest aspect of Liverpool’s game last season. Brendan Rodgers will certainly be on the hunt for options. This surely explains why The Mirror recently ran an article suggesting that The Reds are ‘in pole position to sign Micah Richards’.

They note that Richards only has a year left on his City contract and that Liverpool could secure a ‘cut-price deal’. Exciting stuff, eh?

Richards is never going to get past Pablo Zabaleta in the Manchester City pecking order. New addition Bacary Sagna is also going to block his route to first team action. That won’t be the case at Liverpool. If he gets his head down and works hard, he should be able to secure a regular first team berth.

We all know what he’s capable of when he’s fully fit. He’s physically fit, athletic and strong. He’s also pacey, carries the ball well and loves to support attacks. At 26-years-old, he’s still got plenty of time to re-build his career and find his best form again. Let’s hope he does this in Liverpool colours.

What’s your take? Will Manchester City sell to one of their Premier League rivals? Is Micah Richards a good choice for Liverpool?
