Image for Real Madrid ace ‘available’: should Manchester United make their move?

Di MariaHaving just agreed a mammoth, record-breaking new kit deal, Manchester United should have plenty of money to spend this summer. The kit deal is thought to be worth £750m to The Red Devils, so they should be able to bring in some big names.

United have already signed both Luke Shaw and Ander Herrera (at no small expense) but there’s clearly still work to be done this summer.

Indeed, The Mirror recently ran an article noting that United can ‘spend as much cash as they see fit this summer’. They then go on to link the club to Real Madrid’s ‘Assist King’, Angel Di Maria. Would the Argentine ace be a perfect addition at Old Trafford and would he provide The Red Devils with a good opportunity to spend big during this summer transfer window?

With James Rodriguez now officially a Real Madrid player, it’s not clear where Angel Di Maria’s future stands. The source suggests that United have inquired about the Argentine’s availability and have been told that he’s available. Now Louis Van Gaal needs to work out how much it will take to close the deal.

Di Maria certainly won’t come cheap. Whilst he’s not a James Rodriguez level player, or a Gareth Bale level player, he doesn’t lag too far behind them. The wing-wizard has made 189 appearances for Real Madrid, scoring 36 goals and making 87 assists. Last season he was particularly effective, finding the back of the net 11 times and making 26 assists.

He’s clearly very unselfish in the final third. What’s more, he’s super effective. He seems to form natural connections with his team-mates and he’s always looking to provide them with goal-scoring opportunities.

He’d represent a marked improvement on Manchester United’s current options (the likes of Nani, Antonio Valencia, Ashley Young, etc). In other words, he’s a player that’s worthy of his mammoth price-tag. With The Red Devils on the hunt for some inspiration he could prove to be just the ticket.

But is Louis Van Gaal up for a scrap?

What’s your take? Should Manchester United join the battle for Angel Di Maria?

You said it, he’s not a Bale or a Rodriguez. Why should United buy Madrid’s cast offs? What you are saying is that we should accept second best in the transfer market.
He is only a small upgrade from the United players you have mentioned and certainly not worth more than 10 million. He could be OK as a squad player but that is all.

Di Maria will be a good signing.
